Wisdom

This month our focus is on WISDOM. Beginning a New Year can stir a range of emotions including eager enthusiasm, optimistic anticipation, apathy regarding unchanging circumstances, hopeful longing or possibly even trepidation. As we enter 2019, may we be wise in how we approach not only the circumstances or crossroads the year may bring, but also in how we respond to God - His Word and His world. May we come to Him with humble hearts, seeking His face and His glory before all else. Psalm 107 opens with thanksgiving to the LORD for His goodness and enduring, faithful love, and then exhorts us to speak up, telling others of redemption found in Him. The same Psalm ends with a charge that whoever is wise, should attend to these things, taking them to heart while opening their eyes to the faithfulness of the LORD throughout history. Proverbs 9:10 tells us that fearing the LORD is the foundation of wisdom and that knowledge of the Holy One is insight. In order to become wise, therefore, we must have a right understanding of who God is (who He has revealed Himself to be in His Word), only then can we understand who we are - created by Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16). It is with this knowledge that we can then be prompted to respond accordingly in obedience by the power of the Holy Spirit. So this New Year, may we “wise up” in God’s word.

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:20-21
