The Trinity Christian School AISI project during the current three-year cycle will assist teachers in developing their assessment skills to improve student learning. Teachers will explore authentic performance based assessments, the collection of evidence of student learning through a variety of methods and both formative and summative assessment strategies.
Although much good work has been done, there is considerable room for improvement in day-to-day classroom routines, especially in the use of “smart” assessment and evaluation practices that nurture a coherent and healthy assessment regime. By “smart” we mean those practices that add value --by increasing student achievement in the most important areas of curricular performance and by improving effectiveness in communicating student progress to parents --but don’t require more time and effort on the part of teachers.
